We are still looking into that, but my understanding is that it's every 6 months.  We will confirm and let you know, however I'd like you to know that we have added the cost to our budget so that we can do it every quarter.  We had samples taken by Lab San Martin on Tuesday.  They found that the water was clear with no smell whatsoever which bodes well.  Now they are analyzing the water and hopefully we'll get the results before too long.  The last time that the water was tested, was at the end of November last year.  It was done at the well and it was a stress test to see how quickly the well recovers it's level after 72 hrs of continuous pumping and for the quality of the water.  It passed.  No tanks were tested at that time.  The only previous testing that I was able to find was almost 3 years ago.  The well, tank 4 and tank 5 were tested.  So, to my knowledge, tanks 1, 2 & 3 have never been tested.  This is another reason why we are working on putting together a Maintenance Manual.  This will ensure that things are being done on a regular basis and that we're taking the best care possible of our assets.
All water bills are due on the 15th of every month.
Once you've paid your monthly water bill and are up to-date with all payments, you can submit a form requesting a water credit.  This form will allow you to state your case and is to be submitted to the ASADA Board for a vote.  You will be notified once a decision has been made by the Board.
You will be charged at the commercial rates while your home is under construction.  Upon completion, if your home will not be your primary residence and you will be renting it as a vacation home, then it will remain at the commercial rates,  The only time that your home will be changed to residential is if it is your primary home.

The commercial rate is charged a higher tariff, however only after you've used more than 30 cubic meters within a given month.
In Costa Rica, two groups handle water. There’s the AyA. And also the ASADA, working in different areas. They get water to everyone’s properties. This is through the water system of Costa Rica.

You could turn to nature, like a spring, stream, or a river. If it’s on your land, you might register it. You must also get special permission for using this water.Another path is to make a well by hand. It can’t be deeper than 21 meters. And must be far from others.

You need a water letter to show there’s drinkable water on your land. This proof is from AyA or ASADA. It’s required for building things in Costa Rica.

In places like Guanacaste, getting these special water rights is tough. This is due to the limited water there. So, using nature or digging a well might not work out in these areas.

As of 2014, every construction job needs a water letter. This includes projects in gated communities. Some places in Costa Rica have tried to link their water to the main systems. This is for being able to get water letters. However, this is hard and takes a long time.

Normally, the water letter is good for 6 to 12 months. But, not always can you renew it. If you wait too long, this could slow down starting your building.
